Keep the good. Fix what failed.

A sunken panel, a patch that keeps breaking up or ruts at the entrance can make the whole driveway feel finished. It may not be. What brought you out to look?

A panel sits higher than the next one

The edge may catch a tire or a foot. We need to understand whether the lower slab has lost support, the higher slab has moved or both. Grinding an edge and lifting a panel solve different problems.

The patch has failed again

Another layer of material may cover the opening without fixing why it formed. A recurring asphalt pothole or a concrete repair that breaks along the same line calls for a closer look at the support and movement beneath it.

Rain leaves a puddle by the garage

Where the water comes from matters as much as where it collects. Surface height, driveway slope and runoff from nearby areas need to be considered together before choosing a repair.

You need a driveway ready for heavier use

A delivery entrance, an RV parking area or a gravel drive being converted to pavement needs a scope that accounts for actual vehicles. A residential finish does not tell you what the base can carry.

Why a patch can fail in the same place

A driveway is more than its visible surface. Concrete spreads vehicle loads across the ground beneath the slab. Asphalt relies on a supporting pavement structure. Gravel needs a firm foundation too, even though the surface can be reshaped. If the support gives way, repairing only the top leaves the driveway exposed to the same movement.

Consider a concrete panel beside the garage. If it has settled, filling the crack at its edge will not raise it. Lifting may be worth assessing while the panel remains sound, but badly broken concrete can need replacement. The finished height must also work with the garage threshold. Bringing one edge up without considering where water will flow can trade a bump for a drainage problem.

An asphalt patch that sinks again needs a different look from a shallow worn spot. The failed material may need removal so the support can be checked. Our driveway base guide explains why the repair boundary sometimes extends beyond the visible hole. For an unpaved entrance, see muddy and rutted driveway options.

That is why we explain what the proposed repair can change and what it leaves in place. You can then compare keeping the existing pavement with removing the failed section, without assuming that the largest job is always the right one.

Work matched to the material

The repair depends on what is underneath

Concrete driveway repair

Cracks and failed joints are not the same as a broken slab. We offer concrete driveway repair, including assessment of localized damage, leveling and panel replacement. Sound surrounding concrete can often remain when the failure is confined to one area. Paver driveways get their own approach: paver driveway repair lifts and resets the units over a corrected base.

Asphalt repair and renewal

A localized patch, crack treatment and an overlay each have a place. We offer asphalt driveway repair and replacement, with the condition of the existing pavement and base guiding the choice. Sealcoating is maintenance, not a way to rebuild failed pavement. For businesses, we also handle parking lot repair and striping.

Before work begins

A clear scope is part of the repair

Tell us what you see

Share the address, surface material and the change that concerns you. Photos of the whole driveway and the affected area help explain the problem. Mention standing water, recurring damage and vehicles that need access.

Review the affected area

We arrange an assessment of the surface condition, transitions and visible drainage concerns. The proposed work should distinguish what can be determined at the surface from conditions that may only become clear after removal.

Agree on the work

We set out the repair limits, preparation, materials and access arrangements in the proposed scope. If additional base work may be necessary, discuss how it will be handled before authorizing the job.

Know when to use it

We coordinate the work and explain the return-to-use requirements for the selected treatment. Walking, parking and turning a heavy vehicle can have different restrictions. Follow the instructions for the actual material and conditions.

Surefoot manages driveway work fulfilled by licensed and insured contractors, including any trade licensing required for the permitted scope. We do not treat a photograph as a complete diagnosis.

Budget around the work

What might driveway repair cost?

Suitable residential concrete leveling projects in the Houston area commonly fall around $500–$2,500 or more. That covers lifting affected slab areas, not replacing the whole driveway. The amount of settlement, the void beneath the concrete and the condition of the slab can change the price.

For broader planning, Texas regional asphalt benchmarks are about $3–$4 per square foot for an overlay over stable pavement and $5–$7 per square foot or more for replacement. These are regional benchmarks, not verified Houston quotes. Major base repairs, drainage changes and small-job minimums can materially change the total.

Compare what each estimate includes before comparing its total. Removal, hauling, repair depth, base preparation and the street connection can make two similarly sized projects very different. Read our Houston driveway cost guide or use the cost-planning tool to organize the scope.

Your options, explained

Repair, resurface or replace?

ChoiceWhen it may fitWhat it cannot solve alone
Targeted repairA confined defect with surrounding material worth keepingWidespread deterioration or unresolved movement
ResurfacingA suitable, adequately supported existing surfaceBase failure, major displacement or a drainage problem underneath
ReplacementBroken areas or a broader failure that needs removal and rebuildingA future movement problem unless preparation and water management are addressed

Our repair-versus-replacement guide explains the limits of each approach. Planning a different surface? The asphalt vs. concrete comparison weighs repair options, maintenance and access needs. It also accounts for a starting surface of gravel or dirt, where preparation is a separate decision.

Houston and nearby communities

The address helps define the job

We offer driveway repair in Houston and the communities below. A Houston-area mailing address does not establish which authority controls the approach or the work within the right-of-way. We check the project location and scope before treating two neighboring properties as the same permitting situation.

Questions before you decide

Let's clear up a few things

Does a cracked driveway need replacing?

Not necessarily. Crack width alone does not settle the question. Movement, broken edges, support and the condition of the surrounding concrete affect whether a localized repair is worthwhile.

Can a sunken slab be lifted?

Some structurally suitable slabs can be lifted. A badly fragmented panel or one with unsuitable support may need replacement instead. Leveling eligibility comes before choosing an injection method.

Will resurfacing hide every crack?

No. An overlay does not stop movement in the material beneath it. Existing cracks can return through the new surface if their cause is not addressed.

Is sealcoating the same as asphalt resurfacing?

No. Sealcoating is a surface maintenance treatment. Resurfacing adds a new asphalt layer over a suitable existing surface. Neither should be used to conceal unresolved base failure.

Can you repair only one concrete panel?

Selective replacement may be appropriate when the damage is confined and adjacent panels can remain. New concrete may differ in color and texture from the older driveway.

Do you work on commercial driveways?

Yes. Commercial driveway repair is part of our offering. Vehicle loading, delivery schedules and access requirements need to be included in the proposed scope.

Do you handle gravel or dirt driveways?

We offer gravel repair, regrading and conversion from unpaved surfaces to concrete or asphalt. The starting condition matters: adding aggregate over soft ground may not provide lasting support.

Can driveway repair fix standing water?

It may help when the driveway's profile is part of the cause. Water arriving from another area or a restricted outlet can require additional work. We discuss that distinction before presenting a surface treatment as the answer.

How soon can I park on a repaired driveway?

That depends on the material, treatment, weather and vehicle. Get return-to-use instructions for your specific job rather than applying a general waiting period to every kind of repair.

Will I need a permit?

That depends on the address and scope, especially where work affects the approach, curb, sidewalk or public right-of-way. The authority and requirements should be confirmed before work begins.
